A play area with traditional play equipment, situated within a grass field bordered by mature trees

Update - Opening Event:

We are delighted to invite the local community to join us Monday 12 February 1-2pm to celebrate the opening of the refurbished play area.

Please be aware that press will be in attendance to capture some photographs.

Dorset Council are working on an exciting project refurbishing the recreation ground at Eastworth Road, Verwood. The project is being funded as part of the new Potters Wood development, where the recreation ground was identified for improvement to support the existing Locally Equipped Area for Play (LEAP). Therefore, the majority of the funds are allocated to the play area, which will be aimed at children under 11 years-old, but we will also look at making minor improvements to the whole recreation ground to make it a space for the community to enjoy.

We created a concept plan, ran an online survey and hosted an engagement event at the play area to seek feedback from the local community. Following community feedback and undertaking an access Equalities Impact Assessment and play Equalities Impact Assessment, the final design below was created*.

The play area will have zones: a toddler area 0-4 years, 5-11 years zone, and slides. The equipment has been carefully chosen to meet a variety of needs and the majority of pieces are considered inclusive. It was selected based on the feedback we received, see some indicative photos in the page banner on the right.

Location

The recreation ground is approximately one acre (or half a hectare), sandwiched between the existing properties on Eastworth Road and the new Potters Wood development.

See the location here or visit Dorset Explorer: Eastworth Road play area location.

You can find out more information on the existing play equipment and other local play opportunities by visiting: Dorset Council - Verwood Play Areas.
