Engagement Round 2 Summary Report
Householder Guide to Flooding in Weymouth
As a part of the Building Resilience in Communities (BRIC) project, the Dorset Coast Forum produced a local Householder Guide to Flooding in Weymouth. In this video, we discuss the production of the guide and hear from a local resident about how it has helped them become more resilient to climate change.

Engagement Round 1 Factsheet (2022)
The first round of engagement for the scheme took place in Autumn 2022. The round introduced the project, raised awareness around the key project objectives and issues and gathered public feedback on these objectives as well as experiences and perceptions of flooding in Weymouth.
The public exhibition events (community information sessions) were both held on Monday 10 October 2022 at different times and locations to capture different footfalls and demographics. It was attended by approximately 20 members of the public. This gave the public an opportunity to view information about the scheme, speak with members of the project team and provide feedback.
Two pop-up events were also held during the consultation period at external Dorset Coast Forum events. This was to solely raise awareness of the scheme and allow passers-by to pick up calling cards or scan QR codes which directed them to the Weymouth FCRM webpage and survey. The events were:
- "Wildlife and Wellbeing" event in Radipole Gardens, 29th October
- Weymouth College Environment week, 10th November
In September, over 5000 calling cards advertising the consultation and encouraging people to take part in the survey were distributed across what was anticipated to be the most impacted areas of Weymouth. A social media campaign was also launched across multiple platforms to encourage participation in the survey and to promote the scheme.
A short survey was designed to gather initial views and feedback on the project objectives and experiences and perspectives of flooding in Weymouth, along with some demographic data. This survey was accessible online via a scannable QR code which was on calling cards and banners or by visiting the ‘Have your Say’ engagement platform. A total of 113 survey responses were received.
The findings of this engagement round will feed into the project’s review of the long list of flood defence options and workshopping of shortlist options in winter 2022.
